WHO I AM AND WHAT I DO

Bringing one of a kind play therapy to special kids in our community.

My name is Livia and I founded the Special Kids Therapy Gym with my family this year in August 2018.

I'm a Conductor and specialist teacher with over 33 years of teaching experience. I completed my training in Budapest, Hungary and came to New Zealand in 1997 to offer my specialist training as part of a primary school here in Hamilton. My husband and I, with our five beautiful kids, loved New Zealand so much we decided to stay!

For over 21 years in New Zealand, I have been working with children of all ages to help improve fine and gross motor skills, sensory integration (sensory processing), motor coordination and planning, learning issues and visual perception.

I completed a Diploma of Conductive Education and a diploma of Primary School Teaching in Hungary. In New Zealand I received Advanced Certification in Child Psychology and Education Psychology through a Distance Education School, base in Christchurch. I am also a registered New Zealand primary school teacher. I have completed coursework in several teaching methods to increase my skills in as many areas as possible.

After providing children with my expertise within a primary school setting for 21 years, I would like to offer my knowledge to the entire community and provide a service recognised on an international scale, and deliver it locally.

My special gym for special kids incorporates the use of suspended equipment (where appropriate) into treatment (according to the child’s needs), to help improve a child’s muscle strength, balance, coordination, attention, and other sensory-related behavioural issues.

As there are many different diagnoses, I provide play therapy for those with learning disabilities, ADHD, sensory processing disorders, autism, Down's syndrome and cerebral palsy.

I provide one-on-one treatment to ensure an optimal learning environment. Later I will introduce group classes, and Mum & Baby sessions. In addition, I will always tailor treatment plans to be directly related to the child’s daily “living”, such as schoolwork, play, becoming more independent in age appropriate tasks and self-care.

So get in touch, we would love to hear from you. Even if your child doesn't have a specific diagnoses but you simply want to seek a second opinion and have a fee free consultation, contact us today.
